Conservatory refurbished with a Metrotile Lightweight Roof System Shingle Charcoal Burnt Umber

A dwarf wall conservatory is one of the most popular variations of conservatory available and a common design choice for many households. A traditional conservatory is almost entirely made of glass, but a dwarf wall conservatory as a miniature wall built around the base.

These dwarf walls can vary in length but they are usually less than a metre in height. They are not just a cosmetic design choice either, dwarf walls make a big difference to how your conservatory will feel, especially in the warm weather.

A full glass conservatory may seem like the traditional choice, but it can feel a lot like a greenhouse especially when it’s hot. Because a dwarf wall conservatory features more brickwork it will be cooler in the heat.

A dwarf wall conservatory will also look like a more natural extension of your home and because there’s less glass it will be easier to clean and maintain. Feeling too hot or too cold (depending on the season) is a common problem with traditional glass conservatories but with a dwarf wall conservatory, it is much more manageable.

Planning permission

But the important question remains, do you need to seek planning permission if you want to build a dwarf wall conservatory? When we examine the Planning Portal regulations set out by the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) it is stated that conservatoires, including dwarf wall conservatories, are permitted developments.

This means that you most likely won’t need to apply for planning permission, however, you will still need to meet the conditions and requirements laid out on the Planning Portal website.

What if I don’t meet the requirements?

If your planned conservatory doesn’t meet the conditions then don’t worry because you may still be granted planning permission. However, you will need to apply for planning permission from your local authority first before having your conservatory built. If it does meet the conditions then you can start building your dwarf wall conservatory.

Another way of ensuring your conservatory is not too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter is to carry out a conservatory roof conversion with our lightweight roof tiles. For more help call us on  01249 658 514 or fill out our contact form.
