Does metal roofing rust?

Metrotile Roman Roof in Red Lightweight Roofing Cardiff Traditional homes

Metal roofing is a great modern material that provides the longest lifespan for the typical roof. Metal roofing can be used for a range of buildings including residential, commercial, conservatories, extensions and specialist buildings. It is often regarded as the most eco-friendly roofing material and is fast becoming the most economic option for those looking out for their carbon footprint. But does it rust?

Special coating

A Metrotile is coated with Aluzinc which is a special type of primer, made from both Aluminium and Zinc. Aluzinc-coated steel has a resistance to corrosion, so it will not rust. This rust resistance is ideal for our roof tiles, and enables us to offer a weather-proof guarantee. We also use additional coatings on the weather side of the tiles for a good aesthetic and extra protection.

Durability

Steel roofing has an unrivalled strength and durability. With the Aluzinc primer, a Metrotile can last for years. Our tiles are tested to withstand extreme weather conditions and are pressed from the highest drawing quality of steel, which is why every tile comes with a 40 year guarantee.

No maintenance

Our Aluzinc-coated steel tiles do not need to be re-coated in order to maintain their rust-resistance. The Aluminium and Zinc elements in the primer work together to provide long-lasting protection, without the need for topping up or redoing. This means that a Metrotile requires virtually no maintenance once installed.

British and European Standards

Metrotiles are fully accredited by the BBA (British Board of Agrément) which certifies our tiles as the highest quality, and is proof of our rust-resisting coating. We comply with all British and European standards, and through continual testing of our products, we are safe to say that metal roofing has many more benefits than traditional roofing materials.
