Solar panels? Should you lease or should you buy?

Solar panels are a popular way to be more environmentally friendly and save money on energy costs. The downside to this is that many people find the cost of buying their own solar panel PV system to be too expensive.

While you get the cost back in savings and can even sell energy to the grid, if it isn’t something you can comfortably afford to do are solar panels still worth it?  Thankfully there’s a way to avoid that all together by simply leasing a solar panel PV system instead.

However, this comes with its own set of issues, so you’ll have to think long and hard before you decide whether leasing or buying is the best option for you. Let’s take a closer look at both options below.

Leasing Solar Panels

If you’re really passionate about going green then leasing your solar panels will allow you to use electricity from renewable sources right away. Another good benefit of leasing is that if your panels get damaged in any way you’ll be able to get them repaired by the supplier free of charge.

Leasing will also be a better option if you’re only going to have a temporary build or structure in place for a set amount of time. So, if you’re more concerned with being green as quickly as possible or don’t plan to be staying in the same place for a long duration, leasing your solar panels is a perfectly viable option.

Buying Solar Panels

Buying your solar panels is for the majority of cases going to be the better option, you’ll be able to maximize the financial benefits of saving money on your energy bills and possibly selling energy back to the grid as well.

You’ll have to pay more upfront but these costs can be easily offset by the long-term savings, the value of your home/ property will also be sure to increase with a solar panel system installed and you might also be able to claim tax breaks as well.
