The World’s Fastest Building Systems

In one of our previous blogs we looked at the benefits of pre-fab homes, including how they can speed up construction times. However, if the ability to build fast is a priority there are several other options you can consider that allow you to quickly erect a new structure from scratch.

Insulated Concrete Formwork

Making a house out of polystyrene might sound crazy, but the idea behind it is actually really clever. Companies like Beco Wallform create blocks of polystyrene with strategic holes cut into them which effectively form a mould into which concrete can be poured. The concrete then provides the structural strength of the building while the polystyrene provides excellent built-in insulation.

The blocks are light making them very easy to handle and allowing for superfast installation. Once they have been formed into the required design, the concrete can then be quickly pumped in giving you a strong, insulated structure in a fraction of the time it would take with traditional methods.

Shipping Containers

Shipping companies the world over use millions of metal containers every year to transport goods safely around the world. Most of those containers go on the scrap heap after they have been used for about ten years, meaning they can often be snapped up cheaply. These containers are usually made from a type of rust resistant steel known as corten making them very strong and weather proof.

Shipping containers provide really effective structures for adapting into housing, offices and other types of building. They can be craned into place and stacked side-by-side or on top of each other, allowing to a wide variety of configurations to be quickly and easily created. If treated correctly, corten containers can last as long as most other building materials so offer a long-term structural solution.
