Any roofing material is only as strong and durable as the fixings that help secure it to the roof structure. That’s why at Metrotile our installation guidelines call for 4 fixings per tile, which when lapped, provides 8 fixing points, keeping your roof watertight and weatherproof for over 40-years.
A key consideration when fixing roof tiles is the type of fixings you’re using. As Metrotile roofs are a dry-fix roof system, the most common way of securing the tiles to the roof structure is through hand-nailing the tiles into the battens, which when doing so through steel tiles, you’re going to need a sturdy fixing. Metrotile’s nails are all double-dipped, galvanised steel nails – providing a durable fastening that simplifies the installation process. The double-dipped nature of Metrotile’s fastenings also ensures your roof will not rust from exposed steel encountering each other.
For larger scale projects where hand-nailing every tile would become time consuming, lightweight steel roof tiles can also be mechanically fixed through the use of nail guns. Gun nail strips are loaded into the guns and provide a speedy, accurate fixing solution for securing roof tiles to battens.
When installing a thicker gauge roof tile, such as Metrotile’s double-thickness, anti-vandal .900mm steel tiles, hand-nailing will become near impossible and using a nail-gun dangerous, so that’s where screws
Alternatively, screws can be used and are required for the double-thickness .9mm steel gauge tiles where nailing would become difficult.
