When the initial roof replacement scheme for Mount Primary School was proposed, the decision was quick and unanimous by Wirral Council to approve as the existing roof was in poor state of repair and needing replacing as soon as possible for the safety of the staff and students, but also to save on the increasing costs from maintenance.
Why replace the existing roof?
The decision from the council was that if no action was taken in replacing the deteriorating school roof, that it would lead to further structural damages down the line with major interior and exterior building works required due to water ingress and a lack of protection from an ageing, failing roof.
A major concern for those involved was that if this roof was not replaced, certain school buildings may be taken out of action, affecting the schools capability to provide their necessary educational requirements and potentially putting the health and safety of staff and students at risk.
The council approved the scheme, noting also in the long-term this would be the most cost-effective option – A crucial decision that is often overlooked when it comes to roofing projects in considering upfront vs long-term costs and savings.
Why lightweight roofing is the perfect solution for school roof replacements.
With complex, large-scale public funded projects, all interested parties want guarantees that the materials used will more than satisfy the requirements and provide reliability in ensuring the project is kept on schedule, and will stand the test of time.
For school re-roofing projects specifically, lightweight steel roof tiles such as Metrotile’s are being specified more and more regularly due to the many benefits in comparison to traditional roofing materials.
