From Vision To Reality: The Japanese Teahouse That Cost Half The Price!

When Mr Gibson entered our “Win 50% Off Your Next Roofing Project” prize draw in Summer 2025, he never expected his Japanese-inspired teahouse project would be selected as the lucky winner. However, by simply submitting the campaign form and entering his project details, Mr Gibson not only found the perfect solution for his planned project, but was also lucky enough to complete the roof for half the price.

With an idea in mind but no formal plans, Mr Gibson initially considered plywood and felt shingles, he felt the appearance wasn’t quite right for the traditional aesthetic he wanted to achieve, and where plenty of time and effort was being put into this personal project, a roof tile that was simple to install but durable enough to withstand harsh weather and time was a key decision.

After researching alternatives online, Mr Gibson came across our prize campaign promotion, where he discovered Metrotile Bond, a lightweight steel roofing tile with the classic appearance of traditional pan-tiles.

“I came across the Metrotile system, and in particular the Bond profile which has the appearance of pan-tiles that I was really looking for.”

Because of the compact size of the roof, standard tiles would have looked out of proportion. Working closely with the Metrotile team, Mr Gibson used a combination of 150mm and 230mm Bond short course tiles to create the perfect number of courses for the scale of the building. Ridge and bargeboard components were also adapted to suit the smaller structure.

“I am really pleased with the visual look of the roof and the help and assistance that I received to achieve it.”

The result is a striking Japanese-style teahouse roof featuring authentic Terracotta Metrotile Bond tiles that will keep Mr Gibsons teahouse weather-tight and secure for over 40-years whilst providing stunning, visually complementing aesthetics to the completed building which Mr Gibson plans to complete in the coming months.
